Journal

Living in the United States has been a very fun and worthwhile experience so far. I have made some long lasting friendships and have attended one of the most amazing churches in New York City. Being a christian I am so happy to have found a church that helps young aspiring youths with everyday struggles. Now dont take this the wrong way, I do as a teenager, make some not so wise decisions from time to time as any teenager in any lifetime would. One of the hardest things is to be a role model to everyone else around you. Being a christian is not easy especially when you have so many things to take your eyes off of what is truly important, GOD. I admit, I do wonder what it would be like if I wore jewellry, makeup, went to parties, cursed and did everything else that young people my age do. But when I think of how I was grown and what I would be loosing, I just thank God for carrying me through for so long. The one thing that I have not been able to avoid is my love for dancehall and hip hop music. I do sometimes think that because of this, people do not view me as a christian. But apart from that life is good. I am attending school, college to be exact, and I am having the time of my life. Meeting new people, learning new things, it is just a dream. I do wish sometimes that my old high school friends could join me. Very often I lay down in bed and reminisce about old times when I was in Jamaica. I laugh at certain things that were just not funny at the time. Hell, I laugh at anything. One thing I am grateful for is the privilege that I have to go to Jamaica at least once a year every year. I know a few people who are grateful for this privilege of mine also; my mother, sister, cousins, old friends and my BFF's Tasheika Danvers and Peta- Gaye Ellington. But not all my family members reside in Jamaica. A huge chunk of them live in Canada where I was born. My three brothers, four sisters, nieces, nephews, other cousins and aunts. I love family. When yours is as big as mine people tend to feel out of place or not want to be apart of the family. lol. And as you would expect, my family is no stranger to this. But through all our ups and downs, family is all you have. Life in the U.S is great amidst all that homesickness. I do have family here so I am not alone. Besides it does help when you have things like The Tyra Banks Show, TRL and 106 & Park to attend. I like it here. This is me and it suits me! (wink and smile)
